What exactly is a coating thickness gauge?
A coating thickness gauge is a device used to measure the thickness of a dry film, paint or other material applied as a secondary coating to a metal surface.
Coating thickness gauges are primarily used to ensure efficient application and cost optimisation of anti-corrosion coatings. They help to determine the expected life, quality, durability and performance of the protective coating.

OVERVIEW OF DEFELSKO POSITECTOR PROBE COMPATIBILITY
PosiTector bodies accept a variety of PosiTector probes easily converting from a coating thickness gage to a surface profile gage, dew point meter, soluble salt tester, hardness, gloss meter, and ultrasonic thickness gage. DeFelsko continuously improves and expands its PosiTector platform, and new probes sometimes require technologies that are not available on older gage bodies.
The chart below is a quick reference to determine compatibility, based on the gage body serial number. The serial number is printed inside the battery compartment, and is also displayed on the Gage Info screen (Gage Menu > Settings > Gage Info).
Note: If an ‘unsupported’ message is displayed, and the chart indicates the probe and gage body are compatible, a gage update may be required.
