In our range you will find a complete selection of flow cups and immersion flow cups according to DIN 53211, ISO 2431 and ASTM D 1200. In this article we explain everything you need to know about flow cups and immersion flow cups and their professional use.
A flow cup viscosimeter (viscosimeter) is a container with an opening of a defined diameter. This opening is first closed and the cup is filled with liquid. As soon as the opening or the nozzle is opened and the liquid runs out, the time measurement begins. The time is stopped until the jet of liquid that is running out breaks off.
Flow cup according to ISO 2431
The liquid is filled into a cup, which runs conically at the bottom into a hole (a nozzle) with a precisely defined diameter. The viscosity can be determined on the basis of the cup volume, the nozzle diameter and the measured duration of the outflow of the liquid. This method is mainly used when testing lacquers, paints, resins and liquids with a similar viscosity.
The quick and easy handling, the favorable design of the measuring instrument and the possibility of carrying out in-process measurements speak in favor of measuring viscosity with a flow cup.
Viscosity describes the internal friction of a liquid. Viscosity is therefore relevant wherever liquids are conveyed, pumped, spread or sprayed. In addition, a rheological test can be used to make statements about how a paint behaves after it has been applied and what surface structure is formed when it dries.
Submersible flow cup according to ISO 2431
A dip flow cup is a specially designed viscosity measuring cup used to measure the viscosity of liquids. The special thing about scuba flow cups is that they are equipped with a spout that dips deep into the liquid. This ensures that the flow cup receives a representative sample of the liquid required for accurate measurements.
Submersible flow cups are widely used in the food and beverage, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. They are also suitable for use in environmental technology and in waste water treatment. Using a scuba flow cup is easy. The cup is immersed in the liquid and the liquid is poured into the cup. As soon as the cup has filled, the liquid is drained through the spout.
Diving flow cups according to DIN 53211 (or ISO 2431 and ASTM D 1200, the latter more in the Anglo-Saxon area) are particularly precise and meet the highest quality standards. This particularly practical type of viscometer is made of anodized aluminum and has a stainless steel nozzle with a diameter of 2 - 8 mm, with immersion flow cups according to FORD ASTM D1200 a nozzle with a diameter of 2 - 5 mm.
The special feature of our immersion flow cup is the unique handle design: the centered position enables an optimal flow.
DIN 53211 ISO 2431 and ASTM D 1200 - compliant dip flow cups offer a number of advantages over other measuring cups. This includes, for example, their high level of accuracy and repeatability, which is guaranteed by the special design of the handle and the stainless steel nozzle. Also, they are really easy to use and can be cleaned quickly and easily. Their resistance to chemical attack and corrosion also makes them an ideal choice for use in demanding and harsh environments.
If you are looking for a quality scuba flow cup that meets the highest quality standards and allows for accurate measurements, then you've come to the right place. We offer you scuba flow cups according to DIN 53211, ISO 2431 and ASTM D 1200, which are durable and reliable thanks to their robust construction and resistance to chemical influences and corrosion.
Find out here how you can determine the viscosity of paints and varnishes with immersion flow cups in accordance with DIN 53211, ISO 2431, FORD ASTM D1200.
Immersion flow cups according to DIN 53211, ISO 2431, FORD ASTM D1200 are viscosity measuring cups or viscometers for easy determination of the viscosity (thickness) of paints and varnishes. They are indispensable tools for determining the viscosity of paints and varnishes. Made from anodized aluminum with stainless steel nozzles, these scuba flow cups are designed to measure the time it takes for a liquid to flow through a small orifice. This measurement, called the outflow velocity, is an indicator of the fluid's viscosity. Viscosity cups are widely used in the paint and coatings industry to ensure products meet industry standards and perform as expected.
In this article we will delve into the world of viscosity measurement and cover its properties, benefits and the relevant industry standards and norms. We will also answer some frequently asked questions and provide you with a comprehensive guide to using viscosity cups.
Viscosity cups have several properties that make them ideal for determining the viscosity of paints and varnishes.
Here are some of the key characteristics of viscosity cups:
There are several advantages to using viscosity cups to measure the viscosity of paints and varnishes, including:
In this process, the liquid is filled into a beaker, which runs conically at the bottom into an opening (nozzle) with a precisely known diameter. The viscosity can be determined from the volume of the cup, the diameter of the nozzle and the measured outflow time of the liquid. This type of viscosity measurement is described in the standards ASTM D 1200:1994 and DIN EN ISO 2431:2011 (withdrawn standards: DIN 53211, DIN EN 535 - October 1996). It was used in particular for testing lacquers, paints, resins and liquids with a similar viscosity, especially in Anglo-Saxon countries.
In most cases, the flow time (with specification of the standard and the nozzle size) is simply given as a measure of the viscosity. In addition, there are so-called dip flow cups (or dip flow cups), in which the liquid is removed by immersing the measuring cup, so that filling is not necessary. The quick and easy handling, the favorable design of the measuring device (one cup) and the possibility of carrying out in-process measurements speak in favor of viscosity measurement with the flow cup. However, the method is unsuitable for precise viscosity determinations, since the viscosity range is very limited and the sample quantity very large and the necessary temperature control is not possible. The viscosity is measured as the outflow time in "DINsec".
