When measuring viscosity with an Flow Cup Viscometer, the liquid is filled into a cup which tapers at the bottom into a hole (nozzle) with a precisely defined diameter. Based on the cup volume, the nozzle diameter and the measured time for the liquid to flow out, its viscosity can be determined. This method is particularly common for testing paints, varnishes, resins and liquids with similar viscosities.
A Flow Cup Viscometer is a container with a hole of a defined diameter. The hole is initially closed and the container is filled full of liquid. As soon as the hole is opened and the liquid runs out, the time measurement starts. The time until the stream of liquid stops flowing out is measured.
